WHO SHOULD DO THIS TRAINING?

This course should be done by employees who are responsible for operating an overhead hoist (one (1) ton maximum) in the workplace and who have no overhead hoist experience.

WHY IS THIS TRAINING IMPORTANT?

This course provides evidence that persons who operate an overhead hoist in the workplace have been trained and are competent to do so. Attendees will be able to prepare to lift and move a load, move the load and make the load available for production purposes.

BASIC COURSE CONTENTS

This course includes the following important aspects;

Introduction to overhead hoist basics and general industry terms.

Understanding the requirements of using an overhead hoist in relation to legislation.

Understanding the safe approach to basic lifting operations.

Understanding parts of an overhead hoist, including chain block parts and lever hoist parts.

Understanding and demonstrating how to use an overhead hoist (maximum one (1) ton) in the correct manner.

Understanding the importance of inspections and demonstrating how to conduct basic inspections.

Understanding the importance of the associated documentation, including external and internal visual inspection sheets and hoist testing sheets.

COURSE DETAILS

The course duration is five (5) days.

Training can be conducted:

On-site: for a minimum of four (4) attendees per group. An overhead hoist should be available for practical sessions.

The course programme includes facilitator presentations, readings, individual activities, group discussions and skill application exercises. All learners are encouraged to participate and apply themselves from the first day so that their learning will be interactive and stimulating and their training can be effective and useful to them.

ACCREDITATION

The course is accredited by the Transport Education Training Authority (TETA).

Overhead hoist training (Novice) is aligned to the registered unit standard, ID 244407 (Unit Standard Level 3) with 7 credits. Attendees will be assessed against the outcomes of the unit standards by completing a knowledge assignment that covers the essential embedded knowledge stipulated in the unit standards, and by compiling a portfolio of evidence that provides proof of your ability to apply the learning to your work situation.
