WHO SHOULD DO THIS OVERHEAD CRANE TRAINING?

This course should be done by employees who are responsible for operating an overhead crane in the workplace and who have no overhead crane experience or licence.

WHY IS THIS TRAINING IMPORTANT?

This course provides evidence that persons who operate an overhead crane in the workplace have been trained and are competent to do so. Attendees will be able to demonstrate an integrated practical and theoretical grounding in crane operations according to safe handling and maintenance practices in compliance with crane manufacturers’ and legislated standards.

BASIC COURSE CONTENTS

This course includes the following important aspects;

Types of pendant-controlled cranes.

Crane components.

Operational checks.

Operating the crane.

Lifting and handling loads.

Safety rules.

Wire ropes.

Drums and sheaves.

Inspecting rigging hardware.

Storing and handling lifting tackle.

COURSE DETAILS

The course duration is five (5) days.

Training can be conducted:

On-site: for a minimum of four (4) attendees per group. An overhead crane should be available for practical sessions.

The course programme includes facilitator presentations, readings, individual activities, group discussions and skill application exercises. All learners are encouraged to participate and apply themselves from the first day so that their learning will be interactive and stimulating and their training can be effective and useful to them.

Demonstrate the safe handling and maintenance practices that are compliant with the standards set out by the actual crane manufacturers and legislation.

TRAINING OUTCOME

Successful attendees will receive a certificate of competence and licence to operate an overhead crane.

ACCREDITATION

The course is accredited by the Transport Education Training Authority (TETA).

Overhead Crane training (Novice) is aligned to the registered unit standard, ID 116235 (Unit Standard Level 2) with 5 credits. Attendees will be assessed against the outcomes of the unit standards by completing a knowledge assignment that covers the essential embedded knowledge stipulated in the unit standards, and by compiling a portfolio that demonstrates that you know how to apply the learned knowledge to your daily tasks.
