WHO SHOULD DO THIS SHE REP TRAINING ?

This course should be done by employees with responsibilities for functions within the workplace that relate to health and safety representatives.

WHY IS THIS TRAINING IMPORTANT?

This course provides evidence that persons with health and safety representatives responsibilities in the workplace have been trained on these responsibilities. Attendees will be able to understand the objectives and statutory requirements pertaining to health and safety in the workplace and will be able to explain the rights, powers, functions and duties of the workplace health and safety representative and how any errant health, safety and environmental issues may be handled. Attendees will also be able to participate in the safety, health and environmental structures and measure these activities according to health, safety and environmental requirements.

BASIC HEALTH AND SAFETY REP COURSE CONTENTS

This course includes the following important aspects;

Identifying, recognising and describing SHE requirements and responsibilities.

The relevant current sections of the OHS Act are explained and examples of the implementation and enforcement of selected legislation and other SHE related legislation are described.

Explaining the specified requirements to conduct SHE Rep activities within the workplace.

The specific functions and rights of the health and safety representative are explained in terms of relevant legislation.

The purpose and importance of conducting safety, health and environmental representation activities are explained in terms of relevant legislation.

Important SHE representation activities including participating in the actions to address SHE related issues, addressing SHE related issues at the appropriate level according to specified requirements, establishing facts related to SHE issues from information obtained using accepted data gathering methods and resolving SHE issues by acting according to specified requirements.

The importance of resolving SHE related issues is explained in terms of the consequences to health, safety and environment.

Participating in the activities within SHE structures.

The extent of participation within safety, health and environmental structures according to specified requirements is verified.

The consultation process with interested and affected parties within the organisation is demonstrated according to specified requirements.

The participation in the activities of the safety, health and environmental structures according to specified requirements is demonstrated.

The importance of participating in the activities within the safety, health and environmental structure is explained in terms of the consequences to health, safety and environment production.

The safety, health and environmental activities are performed in such a manner that fosters teamwork and avoids conflict.

COURSE DETAILS

The course duration is one (1) day.

Training can be conducted:

On-site: for a minimum of ten (10) and maximum of twenty (20) attendees per group.

Public training venue: for less than ten (10) attendees per group.

The course programme includes facilitator presentations, readings, individual activities, group discussions and skill application exercises.

TRAINING OUTCOME

Successful attendees will receive a certificate of competence.

ACCREDITATION

Health and Safety Representative training is aligned to registered unit standards and is accredited by SAIOSH as meeting the academic requirements for 2 CPD Credits. Attendees will be assessed against the outcomes of the unit standards by completing a knowledge assignment that covers the essential embedded knowledge stipulated in the unit standards, and by compiling a portfolio of evidence that provides proof of their ability to apply the learning to their work situation.
