WHO SHOULD DO THIS ADVANCED FIRST AID TRAINING?

This course should be done by first responders who react to emergencies at an advanced first aid level, until the arrival of more professional emergency personnel.

WHY IS THIS TRAINING IMPORTANT?

This course provides evidence that first responders who react to emergencies at an advanced first aid level in the workplace have been trained and are competent to do so. Attendees will be able to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and correctly use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a medical emergency. They will be able to explain the principles of advanced First Aid emergencies and demonstrate an advanced level of preparedness to deal with sudden illness or emergency, including assessing and managing an emergency scene or disaster and applying primary first aid for all age groups according to the accepted current advanced level aid protocols.

BASIC COURSE CONTENTS

This course includes the following important aspects;

Understanding and explaining the principles of advanced first aid in emergencies.

Understanding and demonstrating an advanced level of preparedness in dealing with sudden illness or emergencies.

Understanding and explaining how to assess and manage an emergency scene or disaster.

Understanding and explaining the physiology of the human body systems in terms of injury and sudden illness.

Understanding, explaining and demonstrating primary first aid life support for adults, children and infants according to accepted protocols.

Understanding and explaining the causes of shock and the emergency treatment thereof.

Understanding and explaining how to manage shock.

COURSE DETAILS

The course duration is two (2) days.

Training can be conducted:

On-site: for a minimum of ten (10) and maximum of twenty (20) attendees per group.

Public training venue: for less than ten (10) attendees per group.

The course programme includes facilitator presentations, readings, individual activities, group discussions and skill application exercises.

ACCREDITATION

First Aid Training - Level 3 training is aligned to the registered unit standard, ID 376480 (Unit Standard - Provide First Aid as an advanced First Responder) with 8 credits. Attendees will be assessed against the outcomes of the unit standards by completing a knowledge assignment that covers the essential embedded knowledge stipulated in the unit standards, and by compiling a portfolio of evidence that provides proof of their ability to apply the learning to their work situation.
