WHO SHOULD DO THIS INTERMEDIATE FIRST AID TRAINING?

This course should be done by employees who provide primary emergency care (First Aid) in response to an occupational risk induced or any health emergency in their specific workplaces.

WHY IS THIS TRAINING IMPORTANT?

This course provides evidence that persons providing primary emergency care (First Aid) in response to an occupational risk induced or any health emergency in the workplace have been trained and are competent to do so. Attendees will be able to demonstrate the principles of primary emergency care and assess and control a single injury emergency scene in the workplace. They will be able to explain and manage shock and demonstrate primary emergency life support for adults, children and infants as well as carry out secondary assessments of sick or injured persons and provide appropriate primary emergency care at the scene.

BASIC COURSE CONTENTS

This course includes the following important aspects;

Understanding and demonstrating the principles of primary emergency care in the workplace.

Understanding and explaining how to sustain a basic level of preparedness for health emergencies in the workplace.

Understanding and explaining how to assess and manage an emergency scene in the workplace.

Understanding, explaining and demonstrating primary emergency life support for adults, children and infants according to current international protocols.

Understanding and explaining how to manage shock.

Understanding, explaining and conducting secondary assessments of sick and/or injured persons and providing appropriate primary emergency care within the workplace.

Understanding and explaining how to keep records of the incident/accident.

COURSE DETAILS

The course duration is two (2) days.

Training can be conducted:

On-site: for a minimum of ten (10) and maximum of twenty (20) attendees per group.

Public training venue: for less than ten (10) attendees per group.

The course programme includes facilitator presentations, readings, individual activities, group discussions and skill application exercises.

ACCREDITATION

Intermediate First Aid Training (Previously Level 2) is aligned to the registered unit standard, ID 120496 (Unit Standard - Provide risk-based primary care/First Aid in the workplace) with 5 credits. Attendees will be assessed against the outcomes of the unit standards by completing a knowledge assignment that covers the essential embedded knowledge stipulated in the unit standards, and by compiling a portfolio of evidence that provides proof of their ability to apply the learning to their work situation.
