WHAT IS A VENTILATION SURVEY?

This ventilation survey is conducted to determine the quality of the "changing" or "replacement" air in the workplace in order to ensure the quality of this air is suitable for breathing and does not cause any adverse effects on employees in the workplace.

Using approved methodologies, the ventilation survey will be conducted in accordance with the Environmental Regulations for Workplaces and/or the Hazardous Chemical Agents Regulations (HCA) (where local exhaust ventilation systems are used to control chemical dust and vapours). The samples are analysed by a SANAS accredited laboratory and the results are compared to the exposure limits detailed in the relevant legislation schedules.  A detailed report is then compiled and submitted with recommendations for resolving or improving any concerns identified.

This ventilation survey is aimed at small organisations whose employee site count is one to fifty (1 to 50) employees.

Ventilation is the process of changing or replacing used air with fresh air in order to provide suitable indoor air quality and ensure the circulation of air within a workplace. In environments where local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems are used to control exposure to hazardous chemical dust, fumes, gases, mists and other vapours hazardous to health, these have to be regularly checked and monitored to ensure they continue to operate efficiently and effectively.

If levels are not monitored and controls put into place to manage this air quality, the employees working there will be affected negatively, affecting both employee health and organisation productivity.
