WHAT IS AN ASBESTOS ASSESSMENT?

This asbestos survey is conducted to determine the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in the workplace in order to determine the risk of exposure to employees in the workplace and the risk posed by the possible contamination of the workplace through inadvertent disturbance of ACMs from regular organisational activities.

Using approved testing methodologies, the survey will be conducted in accordance with the Asbestos Regulations and the collected samples are analysed by an authorised accredited laboratory.  A detailed report is then compiled and submitted with recommendations for resolving or improving any concerns identified.

This asbestos survey is aimed at small organisations whose employee count is one hundred (100) employees or less.

WHO NEEDS TO DO THIS?

This asbestos survey is intended for all companies who wish to determine the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in their workplace and the risk this poses or who are required to conduct an asbestos survey within their organisation.

WHY IS THIS ASBESTOS ASSESSMENT IMPORTANT?

This asbestos survey is important because it determines the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in the workplace and their risk of exposing employees working there and also determines the risk posed by the possible contamination of the workplace through inadvertent disturbance of ACMs from organisational activities. Asbestos is known for a number of serious and fatal occupational diseases in the workplace and, despite its banning in 2008 in South Africa, there are still many asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in use today. This means, employees today can still be exposed to asbestos unknowingly and eventually exhibit asbestos-related diseases later on in life.

An asbestos survey allows the employer to determine the presence of any ACMs on-site and so resolve any asbestos concerns that may exist, ensuring that employees are kept healthy and safe and important health and safety legislation is complied with.

BENEFITS OF THIS ASBESTOS ASSESSMENT

By having this asbestos survey conducted an organisation will gain the following benefits:

An understanding of the organisation's asbestos exposure levels in their workplace and their compliance with legislation.

An understanding of the main asbestos exposure concerns that the organisation has to resolve or improve upon.

Comprehensive feedback on asbestos exposure levels within the workplace and recommendations for any concerns that require resolution.
