WHAT IS A HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL AGENTS SURVEY?
This hazardous chemical agents survey is conducted to determine the exposure of employees to hazardous chemical agents in the workplace in order to ensure their exposure to these agents is below the limits determined by legislation.
Using approved NIOSH and OHSA methodologies, the survey will be conducted in accordance with the Hazardous Chemical Agents Regulations (HCA).
One (1) sample is analysed by a SANAS accredited laboratory and the results are compared to the exposure limits detailed in the HCA schedules. A detailed report is then compiled and submitted with recommendations for resolving or improving any concerns identified.
This hazardous chemical agents survey is aimed at small organisations whose employee site count is one to fifty (1 to 50) employees.
WHO NEEDS TO DO THIS?
This hazardous chemical agents survey is intended for all companies who wish to determine their workplace hazardous chemical agents levels status or who are required to conduct a hazardous chemical agents survey(s) within their organisation.
WHY IS THIS HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL AGENTS SURVEY IMPORTANT?
This hazardous chemical agents survey is important because it determines the hazardous chemical agents levels occurring within a workplace. Hazardous chemical agents can include any agents that are toxic, harmful or corrosive in nature. These can also be irritating and even cause asphyxiation and may enter the body through inhalation (via the lungs), ingestion (via the mouth) or absorption (via the skin). In some environments, such as laboratories, these can also enter via injection. Exposure to high levels of hazardous chemical agents can cause a variety of symptoms, from mild irritation to adverse health effects to fatalities and occupational illnesses.
A hazardous chemical agents survey is often conducted in conjunction with the risk assessment, where the risk assessment determines the types of hazardous chemical agents present and the survey then determines the levels at which these hazardous chemical agents occur within the workplace. This allows the employer to implement engineering and other controls to resolve any hazardous chemical agents concerns that may exist, ensuring that employee exposure levels are compliant with legislation and that employees are kept healthy and safe within the workplace.
