GENERAL

WHY IS THIS INSPECTION CHECKLIST REQUIRED?

This health and safety in schools inspection checklist forms part of the SHE representative inspection process and allows details of the SHE representative inspection to be recorded and filed.

This inspection checklist is designed to assist all nursery schools, pre-schools, primary schools, high schools, colleges, universities and any place where students will gather for educational purposes.

WHY IS THIS INSPECTION IMPORTANT?

This health and safety checklist for schools is important because it records details of SHE representative inspections. These details can be then used to plan and carry out actions to resolve any issues identified affecting safety concerns in the workplace. These checklists also provide evidence to an inspector that regular checks are being made concerning workplace safety concerns, meaning the employer is being compliant in checking the workplace and proactive in identifying new concerns and resolving these.

In cases where a safety issue may occur, these inspections may be important as evidence to show workplace safety concerns were regularly checked, where legal concerns or financial claims may be involved.

INSPECTION FREQUENCY

This inspection checklist needs to be completed every 30 days (monthly) as part of the monthly SHE representative inspection and annual inspection process. The number of completed inspection checklists for an annual cycle = 12.

VALIDITY

This inspection checklist needs to be completed by an H&S Representative who is properly trained appointed to do so and also needs to be signed and dated by that person. The inspection must be kept on record and made available to any interested parties who may wish to see it or refer to it at a later time.

HOW DOES THIS WORK AS A CONTROL MEASURE?

In the hierarchy of controls, this inspection checklist forms part of the administrative control measures which should be in place to ensure that health and safety inspections are conducted and recorded on a regular basis within the business. This inspection checklist records the details for SHE representative inspections in the workplace and provides evidence of control measure checks for safety concerns in the workplace.
