WHO SHOULD DO THIS TRAINING?
This course should be done by employees with responsibilities for functions within the workplace that relate to fire marshall activities.
WHY IS THIS TRAINING IMPORTANT?
This course provides evidence that persons responsible for functions within the workplace that relate to fire marshall activities in the workplace have been trained and are competent to do so. Attendees will be able to classify the different types of fire and understand the basic fire prevention and protection concepts. They will also be able to operate basic fire-fighting equipment and understand emergency and evacuation procedures.
BASIC COURSE CONTENTS
This course includes the following important aspects;
Understanding and explaining the chemistry of fire.
Understanding and explaining the spread of fire and heat radiation.
Understanding and explaining the classification of fire.
Understanding and explaining fire prevention and protection.
Understanding, explaining and demonstrating the use of fire-fighting and safety equipment.
Understanding and explaining the problems that may cause fires and hamper fire control.
Understanding and explaining how to prepare for an emergency.
Understanding and explaining evacuation procedures.
Understanding, explaining and demonstrating the use of equipment for extinguishing fires.
COURSE DETAILS
The course duration is one (1) days.
Training can be conducted:
On-site: for a minimum of ten (10) and maximum of twenty (20) attendees per group.
Public training venue: for less than ten (10) attendees per group.
The course programme includes facilitator presentations, readings, individual activities, group discussions and skill application exercises.

Attendees who are determined to be competent will be able to:
Identify, contain, prevent and extinguish different types of fires.
Operate basic fire fighting equipment.
Explain and practice fire prevention.
Perform basic fire fighting procedures.
Explain fire prevention in relation to industry safe practices (OHS Act) and company specific procedures.
Apply different fire-fighting techniques.
Explain evacuation procedures and emergency evacuation plans.
TRAINING OUTCOME
Successful attendees will receive a certificate of competence.
ACCREDITATION
Basic Fire training is aligned to registered unit standards and is accredited by SAIOSH as meeting the academic requirements for 2 CPD Credits. Attendees will be assessed against the outcomes of the unit standards by completing a knowledge assignment that covers the essential embedded knowledge stipulated in the unit standards, and by compiling a portfolio of evidence that provides proof of their ability to apply the learning to their work situation.
