WHY IS THIS INSPECTION CHECKLIST REQUIRED?

This inspection checklist forms part of the fire extinguisher(s) inspection process and allows details of the fire extinguisher(s) inspection to be recorded and filed.

This e-checklist guide is provided to all users free of charge.

WHY IS THIS INSPECTION IMPORTANT?

This inspection checklist is important because it records details of fire extinguisher equipment inspections. These details can be then used to plan and carry out actions to resolve any issues identified affecting the readiness of fire extinguishers in the workplace.

These checklists also provide evidence to an inspector that regular checks are being made concerning fire extinguisher equipment, meaning the employer is being compliant in checking the workplace and proactive in identifying new concerns and resolving these.

In cases where a fire does break out, these inspections may be important as evidence to show workplace emergency readiness, where legal concerns or financial claims may be involved.

INSPECTION FREQUENCY

This inspection checklist needs to be completed every 30 days (monthly) as part of the monthly fire extinguisher equipment inspection and annual inspection process.

The number of completed inspection checklists for an annual cycle = 12.

VALIDITY

This inspection checklist needs to be completed by a fire team member or person competent and appointed to do so and also needs to be signed and dated by that person. The inspection must be kept on record and made available to any interested parties who may wish to see it or refer to it at a later time.

HOW DOES THIS WORK AS A CONTROL MEASURE?

In the hierarchy of controls, this inspection checklist forms part of the administrative control measures which should be in place to ensure that emergency equipment inspections are conducted and recorded on a regular basis within the business. This inspection checklist records the details for fire extinguisher inspections in the workplace and provides evidence of control measure checks for fire prevention and protection in the workplace.
